As we are closing the year 2023 and welcoming the year 2024 CARDO, South Sudan, and its partner UNHCR have handed over a newly reconstructed Mayongo Primary Health Care Centre (PHCC) to the government and the community of Mayongo, in Raja County of Western Bahr el Ghazal State and also on the same even CARDO handed over ten permanent shelters equipped with latrine showers to Person with Specific Needs (PSNs) the refugee returnees.
The event was graced by the State Minister of Local Government and Law Enforcement Hon. Robert Cornelio and was witnessed by high-level state government officials including Hon. Elizabeth Mario the State Minister of Gender, Child, and Social Welfare who doubles as the acting Minister of Health, Hon. Ibrahim Surur the state Minister of Cooperative and Rural Development, Rt. Hon. Andal Wadatallah Nasir the Speaker of the State Legislative Assembly and different Raja County officials under the host of the Raja County Commissioner Hon. Addison Arkangelo Musa.
The newly reconstructed Mayongo PHCC is equipped with a doctor’s office, an Observation room, two Clinic offices, a Clerk room, and a store, plus 4 stances of latrines, and highly empowered solar systems have been equally installed to provide light and power to the whole PHCC.
The reconstructed Mayongo PHCC and the ten permanent shelters for the refugee returnees were funded by the UNHCR.
Mayongo residents are among the residents who were affected by the recent conflict in South Sudan, the signing of the revitalized peace agreement which led to improvement in the general security situation has encouraged many IDPs and refugees to return to their areas of origin in Mayonga.
